”The village of thermalism next to the sea”
The Village of Caldes d’ Estrac, also well known by the name of Caldetes, has been recognized since
long time ago, as a pleasant place to live and to rest. It is not only famous by it´s thermal waters, used by
Romans and Arabs for its therapeutic qualities, but by its attractive seashore.
The visitors to better spend their holidays, can enjoy practicing sports like tennis, golf, and some kind of seasports, there are urban parks from which you can enjoy wonderful
views over the sea and the village.
The excellent situation of Caldes, about 36 km. from Barcelona and 130 km. from the French border, and the good communications like the road N-II and the railway station, allow people to
visit the most attractive resorts of the country like Barcelona, Montserrat, Montseny, Costa Brava, etc. |

The Public baths at Caldes d’Estrac

“The thermal waters”
The thermal waters of Caldes have been along history, the main attractive resort of the village. It is known that Romans used this kind of hot water, nominating the place as “Aquae Calidae”. Also was used by Arabs in which the legend of La Torre Dels Encantats is based relation with this kind of baths. Thermal baths have been always frecuently taken either by people who need recovering of any illness or who wanted to get advantage of the softness left in the skin by this water. This Kind of water has been scientifically studied and the results obtained bring us to the conclusion that is well indicated in order to treat mainly, atonic ulcers, menstrual disorders, neuralgies, cronic rheuma and paralysis among other illnesses. The water gets out at a temperature of 39º C.and it is composed by sodic clorur, calcic and sodic carbonates and several sulfats. |

Muntanyà Park

It’s a mixture between wood and garden in the centre of the village, with a wide range of vegetal species in a beautiful open space.
You can acced there by the Riera – in front of Muntanyà Square -, by the Ral Path – in the entrance of the village –, and by St Pere Abanto Street. |

Palau Fabre Foundation

The Fundació Palau –The Palau Foundation- was created in
order to conserve, to exhibit and to make more widely known
the documentary and artistic estate of Josep Palau i Fabre.
Josep Palau i Fabre is acknowledged as being one of the
world’s leading authorities on the life and work of Picasso,
who was also a close personal friend.
Poet, playwright, short story writer and essayist, one of the
outstanding figures of the Catalan literature of our
time, Palau i Fabre has done much to connect Catalan culture
with the most significant artistic currents of the 20th century.
A selection of the artworks in the holdings of the Fundació
Palau is on permanent exhibition. The room devoted exclusively
to Picasso is of very special interest, and there is also a large
room devoted to 20th-century Catalan art, another devoted
specifically to contemporary artists and documents room.
The Fundació Palau has important holdings of bibliographical
and documentary material on Picasso, which are at the disposal
of scholars from all over the world. The Foundation also
organizes temporary exhibitions, lectures and other cultural
events and activities in relation to the different facets of artistic
creation in the visual arts, the theatre or poetry.
